Well, I know exactly how you feel. When I launched my very first bridal website, I was 100% focused on design. I really didn't understand that my website had another critical job to do, besides just making a good first impression. And that job was to sell for me.
Relying On the Wrong People for the Job
The truth is, I had made a crucial and costly mistake with my very first website. I had put all my eggs in the wrong basket. I relied exclusively on designers and programmers to build my website. And, as a result, I had an empty pocket book.
It wasn't long before I realized that if I wanted to sell online I was going to have to figure out....how to sell online! (go figure)
Then, it hit me! Programmers program. Designers design. If what I really wanted to do was get found and hired by more brides, then why on earth was I depending on people who didn't know the first thing about getting found and hired by more brides online?

Yes, I know, hindsight 20/20. Sure, looking back now, you better believe I want to say to my former self "Duh! Kathy, where was your head?" But at the time, it just didn't occur to me that I needed more than a basic team of fabulous designers and programmers to create a website that books more brides.
Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in the hole, I made it my mission to figure out exactly what does make a website compel brides to take action and become paying clients.
Nearly a year later, after intense studying, testing and learning from the best, I discovered that if I wanted a website that got more traffic, more leads and more sales, I needed to start with the sales plan...not with the website.
It Starts With the Strategy...Then the Design
While I was totally distracted and caught up with how my first bridal website "looked", I was completely neglecting how it "sold." In the end, I wound up building a website that looked great but didn't sell a dime. It would take nearly a year before I figured out what I did wrong and begin to turn my situation around.
And that's why today, when my team and I share my exact methods with other wedding professionals, we don't touch a single graphic or line of code without first getting the website sales strategy on paper. Without the plan, it's just a glorified online brochure that never gets visitors to take the next step.
